Kids have always been bullied.

Kids have killed themselves because of being bullied before.

Now because some kids who are gay did it, it is an issue?

What about all the kids who did it because they were made fun of for being fat, dumb, nerdy, ugly, or mentally challenged?

Why don’t they get a special day?

To me, it seems like it is because homosexuality is a huge topic of media today.

I usually don’t care this much, but I just think this is a little obnoxious.

Because studies show that gay teens are way more likely to attempt suicide then straight teens. In fact, one study “published in an August [1998] edition of the American Journal of Public Health, claimed homosexual or bisexual junior high school and senior high school boys are seven times more likely than heterosexual boys of the same age to report suicide attempts” (http://www.soulforce.org/article/653), and another found that “about 40 percent of gay and bisexual students attempted suicide, compared to about 10 percent of their heterosexual peers” (http://www.glsen.org/cgi-bin/iowa/all/news/record/399.html). Because we live in a heterocentric society where homophobia is institutionalized. Because parents are more likely to disown their own child for being gay than for being fat, dumb, nerdy, ugly, or mentally challenged. There’s so much more I want to add to this, but I won’t. I’m not saying that we need to focus only on gay bullying, but pretending that it isn’t a problem? Now THAT is obnoxious.
